A 25-year-old student pilot died Wednesday after a Tecnam P-2010 aircraft he was flying crash-landed in Bauang, La Union, authorities said.

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Operations and Rescue Coordination Center said the student from the First Aviation Academy in Subic Bay International Airport was conducting a solo-cross country flight.

Based on the school’s flight plan, the aircraft with registry number RP-C8230 originated from Iba Airport in Zambales to La Union Airport and Lingayen Airport, before it would return to the Iba Airport.

The aircraft then crash-landed at Barangay Urayong Bayan.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard, the student pilot was brought to the Caba Municipal Health Office where he was declared dead.

His body is now at the Mapanao Funeral Service in Aringay, La Union.

Authorities also retrieved debris of the aircraft that sunk approximately 300 meters away from the shoreline.

The CAAP said investigators from the Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board have been dispatched to determine the cause of the accident.
